SUENO (2022) Monotype: Oil on 320G cotton paper 18.5” x 19.5”
This piece was made in Mexico and belongs to the series of very first monotypes I made. These works experiment with drawing from imagination. Exhausted and plagued by parasites, this painting really captures how sore my back was; my stress, illness and resulting sleepless nights.
I revisited this composition in Full-Time Artist (2023) pictured below on panel, also from imagination, after I had returned to the United States. It is a much less haunted image and the contrast of how safe I felt domestically is highlighted when both pieces are viewed together.
