PREMONITIONS (2022) Monotype: Oil on 320g Cotton Paper 19.5” x 18.5”

As far back as I remember my friend, Lisa, has sworn she has premonitions. Despite generalizations about artists, I view myself as a serious, science-minded person and have waived off these ideas. Once, she saw a vision of the two of us witnessing the sun, the moon and a rainbow at the same time, which I also laughed off until during some very odd weather in Iowa we did see a sun dog paired with a rainbow which she declared close enough. Another time, she was angry with me for weeks when in a dream she saw me crashing a car through the picture window of a house, injuring the bass player of a band she managed. That one did NOT come true, luckily - but no one bats 1,000. Our twenty year friendship, in retrospect, was always diverging. As we grew the differences in our backgrounds became increasingly more apparent, yet I clung to our friendship. Finally, my most recent trip to Mexico and general appetite for adventure despite its consequences ended our friendship. I knew it before it happened creating this monotype one night, feverish from a parasite infestation; my one accurate premonition.
