ADVENTURES EXCITING AND UNEXPECTED (2022) Oil on Panel 8” x 6”

I had recently read a statistic that claimed the average young woman spends five hours a week taking photographs of herself. This work was created from life in one long sitting and then perfected and adjusted over the course of one week for a total creation time of five hours.

Friendships Both Real & Imagined - Prototype
As an elder millennial, I grew up with the internet. I was present for each new social media platform and was an early adopter of MySpace & Instagram. I became comfortable with meeting strangers online and forging friendships with people I will never meet. This work examines these friendships both real and imagined.
As an elder millennial, I grew up with the internet. I was present for each new social media platform and was an early adopter of MySpace & Instagram. I became comfortable with meeting strangers online and forging friendships with people I will never meet. This work examines these friendships both real and imagined. The image shows two wallet sized portrait photographs: on the left my real-life friend, 20 years before I met her and, on the right, an Instagram influencer I have followed from day one, almost ten years now, but have never had a conversation with. Both of these photos were posted around the same time during an Instagram trend.
This work was made from screenshots of photos of these photographs. I am interested in the totems we create and keep as memories of the past and how those totems are shared and with whom as biography. The scale of this painting is miniature. It preserves the preciousness of the actual wallet photographs that were the subject of this painting.
Note: This is one painting on a single board. The split effect is only in paint.

BRIDAL SHOWER - Prototype
My current body of work began as an exploration of the effects of the internet's acceleration of generational divide and isolation. Bridal Shower is a depiction of that isolation; the chasm of socialization styles and significant life milestones. The subject of the painting sits next to a window separated from the other guests visually by structural support beams. She is closed off from the outside where a sunny day is in progress and also separate from the other guests at the shower, who are turned away in conversation.

The subject wears a yellow dress, a color associated with female madness and has an empty glass on the table in front of her. The viewer is placed inside the divide with the subject, lost in pleasant thought, and cannot see most of the party. This work is a study in using composition to heighten story telling.
