BRIDAL SHOWER (2022) OIL ON PANEL 8.5” x 11”
My current body of work began as an exploration of the effects of the internet's acceleration of generational divide and isolation. Bridal Shower is a depiction of that isolation; the chasm of socialization styles and significant life milestones. The subject of the painting sits next to a window separated from the other guests visually by structural support beams. She is closed off from the outside where a sunny day is in progress and also separate from the other guests at the shower, who are turned away in conversation.
The subject wears a yellow dress, a color associated with female madness and has an empty glass on the table in front of her. The viewer is placed inside the divide with the subject, lost in pleasant thought, and cannot see most of the party. This work is a study in using composition to heighten story telling.
