BLUFF STREET (2021) MARBLE LITHOGRAPH ON HAND-MADE, RECYCLED PAPER EDITION OF 4
I created this lithograph during my residence at La Ceiba in Veracruz, Mexico in January 2021. This was my first lithograph on marble. The surface is so sparkly while you are drawing, it gives the impression you are making something with magic. The lithographic process requires you to cover the stone with grease in the places you would like it to deposit ink on your paper during printing.
The stone is then etched with acid, leaving the areas protected by the grease raised and able to receive the ink. What you draw is what is printed. This was my first trip to Mexico and of course I got very sick on the day we were supposed to print the stones, so I missed being a part of the process. So completely grateful to the master printers at La Ceiba, particularly Tania, who got the stone printed for me. I got a small 5 print run from this stone.
This model is Lisa, one of my best friends and frequent models. The day we took this photo was so windy. I was standing on the step catching up with her, she looked up as a bird flew past and I saw the perfect shot. When I look at this piece, I can feel the wind on that day.
