ADVENTURES EXCITING AND UNEXPECTED

The original title for this one is Catherine Denuve Dressed as Catherine the Great Smokes a Cigarette in the Street in Front of the Miracle Car Wash; but I have since learned that the reference photo is actually from Donkey Skin, which is well worth a watch, by the way. Anyway, the new title, Adventures Exciting and Unexpected says more about the night I was inspired to paint this one at all, a night of adventures both exciting and unexpected and a dazzling view of the Miracle Car Wash on Locust Street, lit up like magic.

This painting was created as a prototype to pitch my project GRID:100 Mini Paintings, which was ultimately funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the City of Dubuque.
